Introduction to Content & Endpoint Security

Email and web-based attacks are among the most common threat vectors in the field of Information Security. For both current and aspiring network engineers, it is important to understand how these attacks work, why they are dangerous, and which security technologies can be used to reduce their impact. This course introduces you to common email and web-based security threats, along with the Cisco solutions designed to help detect, prevent, and mitigate these attacks. The topics covered align with the **Implementing Cisco Network Security Exam (IINS 210-260)** and provide a practical understanding of how these security controls are applied in real-world network environments. You will learn about key mitigation techniques for email-based threats, including **spam filtering, anti-malware protection, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP)**, as implemented through Cisco's **Email Security Appliance (ESA)** solution. The course also covers protection methods for web-based threats, such as **blacklisting, URL filtering, reputation-based controls, and malware scanning**, using Cisco's **Web Security Appliance (WSA)**. By completing this course, you will gain a clearer understanding of how Cisco ESA and WSA help organizations protect users, systems, and sensitive data from common email and web security risks.

Course Instructor

Keith started his networking career as customer service representative at Cisco Systems in 1996. His desire to learn more soon led him to a position as a Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) engineer on the “Dial-Access” team, and within six months he had obtained his Dial-ISP CCIE. He later became a network consulting engineer and obtained his CCNA certification while teaching the technologies to Cisco employees during his lunch breaks. Keith was the first instructor on Cisco’s TAC Training team, where he taught a wide range of internetworking topics and later developed and taught other courses such as routing protocols, LAN switching, MPLS, 802.1x, and CCNA. After almost 17 years with Cisco, Keith joined a small startup and focused on 802.11 Wi-Fi technologies, during which time he obtained his CWNA certification. He is now very happy to be working with as an instructor for Routing & Switching. Keith lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife, son, and daughter. When he is not teaching Bootcamps, Keith can be found at home with his family, reading, or working in the yard.
