IPv6 Addressing & Subnetting

IPv6 is here, and if your organization isn't using it now...it will be soon. Critical to an understanding and implementation of IPv6 is knowledge of the IPv6 addressing structure and subnetting. This course will start at the ground floor of IPv6 by explaining the size and structure of an IPv6 address. You'll learn how they are represented using Hexadecimal characters and various ways to abbreviate long IPv6 addresses. Given an IPv6 prefix, you'll learn about the rules involved in subnetting that prefix. You'll also be exposed to the various types of common IPv6 addresses such as Link-Local, Multicast, the Unspecified Address and Global Unicast addresses so that you can recognize these types of addresses within a packet capture. We'll also cover how to apply static IPv6 addresses to platforms using a variety of operating systems such as Windows, OS X, Linux and Cisco IOS command line. You'll also learn about how IPv6 addresses can be dynamically learned via the SLAAC process as well as DHCPv6.
