Switching Security

Switching Security explores the risks and vulnerabilities present at the Layer 2 level in Ethernet switching environments, along with the mechanisms used to mitigate them. It begins by examining common threats such as unauthorized traffic injection, topology manipulation attacks, excessive or unwanted broadcast behavior, and exposure at the access layer of the network. Learners also study the security capabilities provided by switching platforms, including features available on both Cisco and Juniper devices that help protect against these Layer 2 risks. The course highlights how these protections contribute to improved network stability, stronger segmentation, and increased trust in connected endpoints. It is designed for network engineers who are responsible for securing switched infrastructures and who need to understand why effective network security must extend beyond routing and firewall layers to include protection at the switching level.
